Helen E. Grundseth Sept. 25, 1923 - Nov. 19, 2008
GILLETTE, Wyom. -- Helen Emma Rosella Halvorson Leidig Grundseth, 85, of Gillette, Wyo., formerly of Brooten, died Wednesday at Pioneer Manor after a long bout with cancer.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at High Plains Community Church in Gillette and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunburg Free Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Brooten.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Gillette Memorial Chapel in Gillette.
She was born Sept. 25, 1923, on the Halvorson homestead in Brooten to Peder and Claretta (Overby) Halvorson. She weighed 14 pounds, thus breaking the Minnesota state record. She attended country school through the eighth grade and moved to Washington when she was 18.
She married Robert Leidig. After a divorce, she returned to Minnesota and married Bruce Grundseth. They farmed near Brooten until Bruce's death in 1978.
She is survived by her daughter: Paula (and Jake) Wipf; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three siblings: Clara Danielson of Brooten, Palma Brusco of Portland, Ore., and Raymond Halvorson of White Bear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, five brothers and two sisters.
