Helen Hanson Jan. 29, 1912 - May 24, 2009
BENSON -- Helen Marie Hanson, 97, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Benson, died Sunday at Brookstone Meadows Nursing Home in Omaha.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be in Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Memorials preferred to Craig Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
She was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Orwell Township, Ottertail County, near Fergus Falls, to August and Emily (Sundberg) Anderson. She attended District 30 School in Orwell Township and a beautician's school in Minneapolis.
She married Carl Hanson on May 22, 1941. They lived in Minneapolis until 1947 when they moved to Benson. She was a housewife and they had a Sinclair bulk oil distributor business. In 1969, she began working as a nurse's aide at the Swift County Hospital and worked there into her 70s. In her later years, she moved into Westwood Manor in Benson, and in March of 2009, she moved to a nursing home in Nebraska to be near her son.
She was a member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church until it closed, and then joined Our Redeemer's Church and was active at both churches, especially with mission circle.
She is survived by two children: Warren (and Roni) Hanson of Waterloo, Neb., and Janet (and Thomas) Grennes of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Alice Ferguson of Fergus Falls, Hazel Olsen of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lucy Peterson of Vancouver, Wash.; and one brother: Alvin (and Pat) Anderson of Fergus Falls.
She was preceded in death by husband; daughters: Virginia Zluticky and Arlene Hanson; one stepgranddaughter; four sisters; and three brothers.
