San Clemente, CA - Helen Gervaise (Swenson) Knutson, age 91, passed away Nov. 15 in San Clemente, CA. Memorial Service at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 48th and France Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.

A graduate of Willmar High School, Helen moved to Minneapolis and attended the Minnesota School of Business, studied voice at MacPhail Center of Music and worked at Bemis Bros. Bag Co. She moved to San Francisco and sang with the San Francisco Opera Chorus. Helen married Dr. Myrus L. Knutson, pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Los Angeles. In 1963, they moved to Oslo, Norway to build an English speaking Lutheran Church to serve Embassy and NATO personnel for 5 years, moving back to Los Angeles until retirement in 1978 in Joshua Tree, CA and summers in Willmar, MN. In later years she lived at 7500 York in Mpls. and then in San Clemente, CA. Helen shared her beautiful soprano voice in many solos and choirs at all the churches she attended, plus mentoring others in Bible studies and service with food and giving to many in need. Preceded in death by husband, Myrus Knutson, parents, Clara and Melvin Swenson, daughter, Judy Johnson, sisters, Geneva (Oswald) Reed and Vivian Swenson, nephew, Gerald Reed. Survived by son, Steve (Debbie) Knutson, grandchildren, Jon (Brieann) and Christine Knutson and Michael Johnson, brother, Lowell (Janet) Swenson; nieces and nephews, Carolyn (Gerald) Reed of Willmar, Robert (Betty) Reed of Denver, CO, Ivan (Heather) Reed of Duluth, MN, Patricia Moore of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela (Robert) Trent of Radford, VA, Jeff (Sandi) Swenson of Edina, MN and Christine (Steve) Ainsworth of Mpls, MN.
