Henry Jalla Ruter May 1, 1920 - April 21, 2013

WILLMAR - Henry Jalla Ruter, age 92, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, April 21, at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Willmar Bible Church. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery with military honors provided by the Willmar American Legion Post. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Henry Jalla Ruter was born on May 1, 1920, on a farm near Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Jalla and Jennie (DeVries) Ruter. He grew up in the Willmar area and received his education in the rural schools and returned to work on the family farm. Henry served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during W.W. II and was honorably discharged as rank of CPL. On April 12, 1944, Henry was united in marriage to Clara M. Johnson and made their home in Minneapolis. He was employed for the Western Fruit Company and then at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in the maintenance department. In 1947, Henry began working on the railroad and was also engaged in farming in the Rockford area. In 1983, he retired and they moved to Atwater. In 1998, Henry moved into Willmar. He was a lifetime member of the Willmar American Legion and V.F.W. Posts. Henry enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening, raising poultry and bible study. He was born into the family of God on January 28, 1985 and was committed to daily devotions with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by three children, Gloria (and Dennis) Hanna of Los Angles, Chile; Steven Ruter of Green Isle and David Ruter of Kerkhoven; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Louis Ruter of Willmar; four sisters, Martha Reigstad of Willmar, Geraldine Pates of Princeton, Victoria Leona Eisenbeisz of Willmar and Rosie (and Duane) Nelson of New London; one daughter-in-law, Carin Ruter of Bloomington; one sister-in-law, Gladys Ruter of Hanover and special friend, Darlene Houdek of Willmar, besides many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara in 1997; one son, Dennis Ruter; one grandson, Jason Ruter; three brothers, George, Edward and Martin Ruter; five sisters, Fannie Orsten, Katie Johnson, Minnie Bjork, Ann Reigstad and Ella Ruter.
