City Administrator John Mulder said Anderson had been under investigation. Anderson had been with the police department for 14 years and served as chief for about 2½ years. He resigned last week.

Mulder wouldn't say what Anderson was being investigated for, but said the investigation would not be completed now that Anderson has resigned.

Anderson will not be employed by the Hermantown Police Department in any capacity, Mulder said.

An interim police chief will be named while they look for a replacement.

Boucher said he couldn't comment further under attorney advisement.
