Highway 29 to close Monday between Benson, Highway 40
BENSON — Minnesota Highway 29 between Benson and Minnesota Highway 40 will be closed for resurfacing and bridge rebuilding projects starting Monday.
Eleven miles of road will be resurfaced using a cold-in-place recycling method rather than the traditional mill and overlay method which will reduce the amount of maintenance and repair costs over time, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
During the project, Highway 29 will be closed to all traffic and drivers will detour to U.S. Highway 12, Swift County Road 31/Chippewa County Road 4 and Highway 40.
Only residents who live inside the closed section of road and motorists whose final destination is within the closed area will be allowed to travel on Highway 29.
Travelers should note that the road will not be passable at any of the bridge replacement sites.
The resurfacing project was originally scheduled to begin next year but was moved up due to the current condition of the road. The schedule change will reduce time and money spent on repairing the road, according to MnDOT.
Central Specialties Inc. of Alexandria is the prime contractor for the project and the construction is scheduled to be finished during October 2014.
