Motorists will encounter some minor delays, including one-lane restrictions, as crews continue to test the pavement and perform final clean up work along the project, the department stated.

Work on the 15-mile project began May 11 and it was originally scheduled to re-open on Aug. 28. However, the discovery of the imperfections in the concrete led MnDOT to use a sophisticated, ground penetrating radar system to locate the anomalies.

The imperfections in the new concrete pavement could potentially reduce the durability of the surface. Mn/DOT is using a sophisticated ground penetrating radar system to locate the anomalies. The data from the testing will be used in the next few months to develop strategies to repair the concrete and ensure that the public gets an appropriate return on their investment.
