Highway near Milan, Minn., reopens after oversized load struck RR bridge in fatal accident
MILAN — The highway north of Milan has been reopened after a fatal accident this morning when an oversized load struck a railroad bridge, came loose from a semi and landed on a passing car.
The identities of the drivers have not yet been released.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says in a news release that Minnesota Highway 7/U.S. Highway 59 north of Milan was reopened about 12:30 p.m. today. It had been closed since 7 a.m. while the State Patrol investigated the accident.
A 2012 Kenworth was southbound with an oversized load and struck an overhead railroad bridge, causing the load to come off the truck and land on a 2004 Toyota Camry that was northbound, according to the State Patrol’s online report. The car was totaled, and the semi had moderate damage.
The State Patrol is expected to name the drivers at 2 p.m. today.
Assisting at the scene were Milan Fire, Appleton Ambulance, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and MnDOT.
