WILLMAR – The highways in the Willmar region are treacherous tonight, especially highways to the south and west of Willmar.

Blowing and drifting snow is sticking to the roadway, creating patches of glare ice. The extreme slippery conditions have traffic slowing to 30 mph on some stretches of highway.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation describes conditions as difficult, and the department’s road and travel conditions website – 511mn.org – showed two spin-outs on U.S. Highway 12 west of Willmar in Swift County and a spin-out on state Highway 23 in Kandiyohi County east of Clara City.

Spin-outs also have been reported this evening in Yellow Medicine County and in Lyon County near Marshall in southwest Minnesota.
