Hildegard R. Haglund April 12, 1930 - Oct. 19, 2008
KERKHOVEN -- Hildegard "Hilde" Rosa Haglund, 78, of Kerkhoven died Sunday at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Covenant Church in rural Pennock.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Kerkhoven and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born April 12, 1930, in Wurzburg, Germany, to Heinrich and Rosa (Michel) Reuert.
She grew up in Germany where she received her education. On March 16, 1945, she survived the bombing of her city and the destruction of her home. Following the bombing, Hildegard, her mother and sister, walked 50 miles to stay with relatives in the country. Later that year, they returned to their home where they lived in the cellar while rebuilding their home. She worked as a babysitter for a doctor and worked nights in a U.S. Army Post Office.
She married Waldemar Haglund on June 4, 1949, in Wurzburg. She arrived in the United States in 1949 and became a U.S. citizen in 1955. She was a member of Salem Covenant Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. After several years of struggling with her memory, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1998 and became a resident of Bethesda Pleasantview in July 2007.
She is survived by her husband of Kerkhoven; sons: Larold (and Lynette) Haglund of Willmar, Henry (and Shelly) Haglund of Willmar, Ralph (and Doreen) Haglund of Pennock, Wesley Haglund of Willmar, Dale (and Nora) Haglund of Brooten, Michael (and Chery) Haglund of Kerkhoven; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters: Renate and Ute, both of Wurzburg.
She was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and one grandson.
