Historic Litchfield house nearing its new location west of Willmar

WILLMAR -- An historic house that stood on Sibley Avenue in Litchfield since 1894 is now yards away from a new location just west of Willmar and south of Minnesota Highway 40 near the airport.

Workers with Stubbs Builders and Movers, Long Lake, moved the house across Minnesota Highway 23 at the intersection with Kandiyohi County Road 5 shortly before noon today. They will be crossing a soybean field and placing the three-story structure on its new location this afternoon.

The house began its journey on Monday. The house had to be moved at a snail's pace due to its size and weight, according to workers with Stubbs.

The house will become the new home for Melanie and Adam Dickman. They were looking for a house with "character,'' and learned that the Litchfield house would be demolished to make way for a major expansion at First District unless purchased and moved.
