Hjalmer Hanson April 23, 1929 - July 18, 2009
DE GRAFF -- Hjalmer Benjamin "Sonny" "Benny" Hanson, 80, of DeGraff, died Saturday at St. Cloud Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda Lutheran Church near Murdock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born April 23, 1929, near Murdock to Benny and Della (Johnson) Hanson. He grew up near Murdock and attended Pope County School District 34, where he received a diploma from the eighth grade. He served in the Army as a radio operator from 1948 to 1952.
He married Arlene Pangrac on Nov. 3, 1952, in Big Stone City, S.D. They lived for many years outside of Benson and, in 1975, they moved to a small acreage north of DeGraff. He worked in construction jobs before going to work at Great Northern Railroad for 37 years. He was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson for many years and Bethesda Lutheran Church near Murdock. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1403 in Benson.
He is survived by his wife; children: Cheralyn Hanson of Luverne, Jean Skoglund, Jerome Hanson, Gregory (and Toni) Hanson, all of Aubrey, Texas, Mark (and Laurie) Hanson and Dale (and Theresa) Hanson, all of Benson; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; silbings: Rodney Hanson of San Angelo, Texas, and Lorraine "Toodles" Wrobleski of Benson.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Ray Skoglund; and two sisters.
