House 13B: Republican challenger Bruce Vogel defeats incumbent Al Juhnke
Update 3:45 a.m.
Republican challenger Bruce Vogel has defeated Democrat incumbent Al Juhnke in House District 13B with 100 percent of precincts reporting.
With 38 of 38 precincts reporting, the unofficial results have Vogel winning with 7,904 or 53 percent and Juhnke with 7,126 or 47 percent.
"We're pretty excited,'' said Vogel when reached with the results. "We're still taking it all in.'' Vogel said his first goals will be to keep businesses in the state and look at ways to make government more efficient through down-sizing and combining agencies when possible.
"We've got a lot to do,'' said Vogel, pointing to the budget deficit and challenges the state is facing.
"It's been a good 14 years,'' said Juhnke, DFLWillmar. "We've done a lot of good for the area.''
Juhnke extended his best wishes to his successor to carry on the work for the district, and said he was looking ahead with optimism to what the future would bring his way.
His loss was an upset in District 13B, which covers Kandiyohi County. Juhnke had represented the district since 1996 and served as chairman of the House Agriculture and Veterans Affairs Finance Committee since 2007
