The Tigers showed superior speed and great depth while administering a 33-8 licking to close the curtain on the Willmar season.

The Cardinals (2-7) didn't break through until the final minute when junior running back Zach Cordes scored from the three-yard line, one play after an 18-yard keeper by quarterback Mark Dunham.

The Tigers (7-2) advance to meet Marshall, in Hutchinson, on Saturday in the 2AAAA semifinal round.

Hutchinson, the No. 2 seed, piled up 324 yards with their straight-on running attack. No. 7 Willmar finished with 191 total yards. The scoring drive picked up 79 of those yards in 10 plays.

Hutchinson led 20-0 at halftime. Willmar had only two first downs over the first 24 minutes, both on passes to Colin Erickson from Alec Saunders. Erickson finished with four catches and tight end Kyle Schmidt three, plus a two-point conversion catch.

Saunders, who went both ways until near the end when he limped off, was in on 16 tackles. Cody Stegeman was in on 10 stops, Logan Birkland nine and Nate Swoyer eight. All are linebackers. Adam Fagerstrom, a defensive back, made eight stops and defensive lineman Ryan Filipek seven.

Willmar fullback Isaiah Streed ran for 60 yards in nine chances.

Michael Hantge, a 5-6 tailback and a member of the junior class which dominates the Tigers' lineup, broke loose repeatedly for 171 in 25 carries.
