Incumbents, challengers filed for seats on area school boards
Filing closed Tuesday for school board elections to be conducted during the general election in November. Candidates have until 4 p.m. today to withdraw. The following information was gathered from school district officials.
GROVE CITY -- Four candidates have filed for four seats on the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City School Board.
Incumbents Judy Raske and Joel Gratz and newcomer Jeanna Lilleberg have filed for four-year terms.
Dale Hoerchler has filed for a two-year term.
Two incumbents, Kathy Mahn and Rick Nordin, did not file for re-election.
BELGRADE -- Five people have filed for three positions on the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa School Board.
The three incumbents -- Ginny Borgerding, Rollie Imdieke and Danny Wold -- all are seeking re-election. They are being challenged by Dave Cebulla and Paul Weller, who also have filed for a seat on the School Board.
BENSON -- Four incumbents will be unopposed for their slots on the Benson School Board. Jeff Guest, Bill McGeary, Al Pagel and Dennis McManus filed for re-election.
OLIVIA -- Six people are vying for four seats on the BOLD School Board.
Three incumbents have filed for re-election but current board member Joe Hennen is not seeking another term, creating an opening for a new person on the board.
The candidates are Jeff Benson, Paul "Woody" Leindecker and Neil Prokosch, who all are incumbents, and John Desotell, Matt Holland and Kenneth Ziesmer.
KERKHOVEN -- In the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg School District, four School Board seats are open this fall.
Four candidates have filed for the seats, including two incumbents.
Incumbents Eric Tollefson and Mike Lindquist filed for re-election. Also filing were Steve Collins and Neil Miller.
Incumbents Alan Bauman and Kevin Lundberg did not file.
Lac qui Parle Valley
MADISON -- Voters in the Lac qui Parle Valley School District will elect and re-elect members to the school board in the Nov. 4 general election.
In District 3, Jon Olson of Madison filed for the four-year term. Board member Dave Pillatzki did not file for re-election. No one else filed.
In District 4, no one filed. Board Chairman Rod Weber of Madison did not file for re-election.
In District 5, Robert Tostenson from the Milan area filed for election to fill the remaining third and fourth years of an unexpired four-year term. Tostenson had been appointed to fill the second year of the unexpired term, and decided to seek election to the remaining two years of the term. No one else filed.
In District 6, board member Kim Mitchell of Appleton filed for re-election. She is unopposed for the four-year term.
LITCHFIELD -- Three incumbents will be unopposed for three seats on the Litchfield School Board. Brian Park, Stacey Helstrom and Karla Rick filed for re-election.
CLARA CITY -- Three seats are open this fall on the MACCRAY School Board. One candidate filed for each board position. MACCRAY board members are elected in districts.
In District 1, Rita Wolf filed for office, and incumbent Tom Palke did not file. The district includes all or portions of Crate, Havelock, Leenthrop, Grace, Louirston and Granite Falls townships.
In District 3, covering the city of Clara City, Jay Maurice filed. Incumbent Carol Thomton did not file.
In District 6, incumbent Tim Smith filed for re-election. The district includes all or portions of Edwards, St. Johns, Whitefield, Holland and Willmar townships.
MONTEVIDEO -- Three candidates filed for three available seats on the Montevideo School Board, but only one is an incumbent. Betty Christensen filed to retain her seat. Maggie Kluver and Darin Balken filed for their first terms on the board. Incumbents Tom Young and Tim Forde did not re-file.
NEW LONDON -- Three seats are up for election at NLS, but only two people filed. Incumbents Helena Lungstrom and Jeff Roguske have filed for re-election. Chairwoman Karen Nelson is vacating her seat.
RENVILLE -- Seven candidates have filed for four seats on the Renville County West School Board this fall.
Only one incumbent board member, David Hamre, filed for re-election. Board members Dan Lippert, MaryKay Sinner and Greg Mulder did not file.
In addition to Hamre, candidates for the board include Jeremy Hebrink, Ann Johnson, Marci Robertson, Mark Molenaar and Dave Zaske.
WILLMAR -- Six people filed for four seats on the Willmar School Board.
Don Thorpe and Mike Reynolds filed along with the four incumbents -- Wayne Lenzmeier, Shawn Mueske, Eric Roberts and Sandi Unger.
Yellow Medicine East
GRANITE FALLS -- Four candidates are on the ballot for five available seats on the Yellow Medicine East School Board, and only one is an incumbent.
First-time school board candidates Tim Opdahl, Jane Hagart and Larry Lee filed for three of the four four-year terms up for election. Grant Velde, appointed to fill a vacant seat, re-filed for the remaining two years of that term.
A fourth seat will have to be decided by a write-in vote.
Incumbents Warren Formo, Cheryl Eckhardt, Chad Fisher, and Art Rillo did not re-file.
