The Renville County Sheriff's Office was called to the campground at Beaver Falls Park at around 8:40 a.m.

The sheriff's office said an adult female driver apparently was trying to back into a parking area near the family's tent site at 8:20 a.m. According to information obtained during the investigation, the van's driver allegedly backed over and through the tent, dragging the mother and infant under the vehicle.

The mother and infant were taken to the Redwood Falls Area Hospital by personal vehicle. The baby was pronounced dead upon arrival in the emergency room, the sheriff's office said. The mother was listed in stable condition.

Their names will be released when family members are notified.

The sheriff's office said the van's driver was arrested and is being held at the Renville County Jail pending formal criminal charges from the Renville County Attorney's Office.

Beaver Falls Park is located three miles northwest of Morton. The park is owned and operated by Renville County.
