Goodwin starting

for UW-River Falls

Six-foot-seven sophomore center Connor Goodwin (Brooten, BBE) is starting for the UW-River Falls Falcons (4-6) men’s basketball team this season.

Averaging 20.2 minutes per game, he is shooting 54 percent from the floor and is averaging 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds a game.

Holleman moves up on SMSU 3-point  list

Senior guard Bree Holleman (Hancock) became the fifth-leading 3-point shooter in Southwest Minnesota State University women’s basketball history when she made her only trey of the game in a 66-53 loss to the University of Sioux Falls at Marshall on Saturday. Her first-half trey gave her 122 career makes from the arc. She finished with 10 points, her season average, The Mustangs (2-8) dropped their eighth straight.

Condon’s 14 points

leads Mustang win

Shaun Condon, SMSU junior guard from Clara City, scored a team-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting coming off the bench to help the Mustangs (7-5) defeat Sioux Falls 63-52 on Saturday.

Contests added for Willmar holiday hoops

The Bremer Classic boys basketball team kicks off a three-day Willmar hoops fest Thursday-Saturday. The New London-Spicer boys (5-0) play New Century Academy (0-2), Hutchinson, at 6 p.m. followed by the Cardinals (6-2) vs. Benson (5-4) at about 8 p.m.

On Friday the Bremer and the West Central Tribune WildCard double up with junior varsity games starting at 9 a.m. The varsity games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the New London-Spicer (5-0) girls playing Minnehaha Academy (5-1) followed by Albany (5-0) vs. Willmar (3-2). The boys follow with the third-place game and the championship.

On Saturday, the WildCard third-place game is at 6 p.m. followed by the championship.

On Friday, at halftime of both the Willmar girls game and the Willmar boys there will be a free-throw/3-point shooting contests. For $1 contestants will get one attempt to make a shot. “Makes” win a PowerAde or Gatorade, provided by Vikings Coca-Cola and Bernicks. Bremer and the Tribune will match all proceeds which will be donated to the Salvation Army of Willmar.
