Lindsey Vonn joins ‘Today’ and NBC Sports as Olympic correspondent

Lindsey Vonn might not be competing at the Olympics this year, but she won’t be ignoring them.

Vonn, who dropped out of the Winter Olympics earlier this month due to a knee injury, has signed on as an Olympics correspondent for NBC Sports and NBC’s morning show “Today.”

As a correspondent, Vonn will report daily from the United States for “Today,” and will contribute to NBC Sports’ Olympic coverage, sharing her unique perspective on the games from an Olympian’s point of view.

Vonn will appear on “Today” Tuesday to discuss her new role at NBC, and will offer an update on her training and rehabilitation.

Vonn, who’s experienced a number of physical setbacks over the past year, announced in early January that she won’t be competing at the winter Olympics, which kick off next month in the Russian city of Sochi. The skiier said that her knee is still “too unstable” to compete.

“I did everything I possibly could to somehow be strong enough to overcome having no ACL, but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level,” Vonn said.
