Three Cards named CLC Performers of the Week

Boys Hockey: Isaac Kobienia, sophomore, scored 3 goals and had an assist in 2 games.

Girls Basketball (defense): Courtney Magnuson, junior, grabbed 17 rebounds and pocketed 6 steals in 2 games.

Gymnastics: Haley Mottinger, sophomore, placed third in the vault at the Class A State Meet with a career-best score of 9.6.

Ridgewater’s Sorenson, Kalenberg among MCAC South Division leaders

Ridgewater College sophomore Raeann Sorenson (Brooten/Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa) finished seventh in scoring in the MCAC South Division with a 14.2 ppg average.

Sorenson also finished among the leaders with 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals. She finished the regular season scoring a career-best 30 points in a loss to Fergus Falls.

Jess Kalenberg (Hector/Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart) shot 38.2 percent (42-for-110) on three-pointers and averaged 3.1 apg. Rachel Ampe (Paynesville) averaged 7.0 rpg.

Also among the leaders are Brooke Wuertz (Paynesville) shooting 74 percent at the free throw line (54-for-73) and Courtney Kramer (Hector, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart) with a 43.7 field goal percentage (125-for-286).

Ridgewater hosts Fox Valley today at 6 p.m. for the final spot in the four-team Region 13A that starts on Saturday.

Leopards regain stride with Hinrichs return

Since returning to the starting lineup on February 1, junior guard Seth Hinrichs (Clara City/MACCRAY) is leading the Lafayette Leopards in scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg), helping the Patriot League team go 6-1 after going 0-11 in his absence (knee injury).

Hinrichs pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds in the win over Lehigh on Sunday. Tonight, the Leopards (6-10, 10-17) play Colgate (4-12, 10-17) in Hamilton, N.Y.

Steinhaus, Gophers aim for Big Ten tournament

Redshirt senior Kevin Steinhaus (Pennock/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg) and his Gopher teammates’ next assignment is the Big Ten Conference Championships March 8-9 at Madison, Wis.

The Gophers (14-1) finished in a three-way tie for the dual-meet title with Penn State and Iowa, both of whom they defeated while losing at Michigan.

On Sunday, at Ames, Iowa, the No. 1 Gophers leveled No. 15 Iowa State 27-12. Steinhaus majored Boaz Beard 13-5. Steinhaus is ranked eighth at 184 pounds.
