Tengwall lands on All-MIAC basketball team
University of St. Thomas senior and New London-Spicer High School graduate Erik Tengwall was named to the 15-player All-MIAC team and the guard was one of just five that landed on the conference’s All-Defensive Team.
The 6-foot-1 Tengwall was part of a UST senior class that won 104 games in its era, with two Final Four trips and seven of a possible eight MIAC championships (regular season and playoff).
Tengwall had nearly a 3-1 assist-to-turnover ratio over the last two seasons, and started 73 games over the last three seasons. He converted 44 percent from the 3-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line to en route to averaging 10 points a game this season.
Former NLS AD Dobbs to be inducted into MnIAAA Hall of Fame
Former New London-Spicer Athletic Director Ron Dobbs will be inducted into the Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MnIAAA) Hall of Fame at their annual Recognition Banquet on Wednesday, March 26, 6 p.m. at Rivers Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud.
Dobbs taught mathematics for 36 years, coached football and basketball, and served as the school’s Athletic Director from 1979-2001. Dobbs was instrumental in NLS joining the West Central Conference in 1981 and served as the Conference Executive Secretary for 16 years.
Ron was instrumental in the addition of softball, girls tennis, gymnastics and hockey at NLS and twice was named Region 5A Athletic Director of the Year. Forty-four teams competed in state tournaments during Dobbs’ tenure.

Willmar Community Education and Recreation will be running a MSF slow-pitch softball umpire clinic Monday, March at the Jefferson Learning Center beginning at 7 p.m.
