Two Cardinals named CLC top performers

Willmar athletes Colten Carlson, a sophomore, and Tony Kallevig, a senior, are among those honored as Central Lakes Conference Performers of the Week.

At the Section 5AA True Team meet, Carlson won the 400 meter run, was third in the 800 and helped the Cardinals’ 4 x 400 relay place second.

In boys golf, Kallevig shot 69 to earn medalist honors at a CLC meet hosted by St. Cloud Apollo, and he has been medalist in three of six meets.

Cole earns all-conference honors for Luther College

Senior Jayne Cole (Luther College), a 2010 graduate of Willmar High School, earned all-conference honors at the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend at Carlson Stadium on the campus of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

To earn all-conference honors an athlete must place in the top three in either an individual or relay event. Cole earned all-conference honors placing second in the 5,000 (18:03.38) and third in the 10,000 (38:15.24).

This is the second time in as many years she has earned all-conference honors in these events.

Fransen named Pitcher of the Week in MCAC South

Minnesota State-Fergus Falls and former Renville County West pitcher Ryan Fransen earned Pitcher of the Week honors in the MCAC South on Tuesday.

Fransen tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters against Central Lakes College on Saturday to put the Spartans into the NJCAA Division III Region 13 tournament.

Pre-registration deadline for WeGotta 5K is May 21

The WeGotta 5K run is June 14, starting at the Bird Island City Park Shelter.

The pre-registration deadline is May 21. The cost is $20.

Registration the day of the race is $30 and a t-shirt is not guaranteed.

All proceeds from the run go to the Renville County Hospice.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m.
