Dreier honored by college golf coaches
Former New London-Spicer student-athlete Joey Dreier was one of two UW-Eau Claire golfers honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America with the announcement of the organization’s NCAA Division III All-Region and All-Freshman teams.
Dreier, an Eau Claire freshman, was named to the All-Freshman team, one of just six freshmen in the nation to be selected to the team. His teammate Brady Hanson was named to the All-Region Central team.
Dreier’s scoring average of 76.4 was fourth best for UWEC, playing in 13 rounds and seven tournaments. He finished in the top 10 twice, his best finish being a tie for eighth in the Twin Cities Classic.
Shortstop, Early Bird set for weekend
Two back-to-back 27-hole golf tournaments are coming up this weekend.
The Little Crow Country Club Shortstop is on Saturday followed by the Eagle Creek Golf Club Early Bird on Sunday. Registration is through the pro shop of the respective clubs in New London and Willmar.
Cards’ Anderson voted top 2AA coach
Willmar head tennis coach Jim Anderson was voted the Section 2AA Coach of the Year.
Anderson is one of eight coaches statewide honored in Class AA. Paul Bates, coach of the Cardinals’ Central Lakes Conference rival St. Cloud Tech, was voted Section 8AA’s top coach.
