MCGA sponsoring Jam the Stands at area speedways

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association is sponsoring a free night of auto racing at three area speedways in July as part of its Jam the Stands promotion.

Fans will get free admission and the opportunity to learn more about ethanol during races at Willmar’s KRA Speedway on July 25 (starting at 6:30 p.m.), at Montevideo’s Fiesta Speedway on July 26 (7 p.m.), and at the Madison Speedway on July 20 (6 p.m.). Six other tracks in Minnesota are taking part in Jam the Stands.

Fans can win two $50 Visa gift cards and also can visit the Biofuels Mobile Education Center. The 45-foot mobile learning center will be at all nine speedways for fans to learn more about ethanol fuel through interactive touch-screen computers, educational displays, movies and tools to help people locate flex-fuel pumps in the area.

Wild waive Gilbert

ST. PAUL (AP) — The Minnesota Wild have waived defenseman Tom Gilbert.

The team announced the move Wednesday. The 30-year-old Gilbert had one season left on his contract for $3 million.

If he goes unclaimed by another team, the Wild will use one of their two available compliance buyouts to keep Gilbert’s money from counting against their salary cap. He would then become an unrestricted free agent Friday, eligible to sign with any team except the Wild.
