Bodin finishing college career in New Jersey

Brandi Bodin is finishing her second year at NCAA Division II Bloomfield (N.J.) College as the Deacons’ starting catcher.

The 2009 MACCRAY graduate from Clara City achieved All-America first-team honors in her second year at Ridgewater College in Willmar.

This spring she is hitting .385 (10-for-26) with seven walks, a home run and nine assists. The Deacons are 18-19 with a doubleheader left in the regular season.

Willmar 14U baseball tryouts are May 4

Willmar 14U traveling baseball tryouts are Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. on Swansson Orange and Blue fields.

Players trying out cannot turn 15 before May 1, 2013.

Please show up rain or shine as any rescheduling will be announced at the original tryout.

Steinhaus to headline Willmar wrestling camp

The Willmar Wrestling Camp will be held July 8th-12 from 9 a.m.-Noon at the Willmar Middle School. The camp is for grades 4-12 (2013-14 school year) in the west-central Minnesota area.

Featured clinicians are the Gophers’ two-time All-America and former KMS state champion Kevin Steinhaus and three-time All-America and 2010 national champion Jayson Ness.

The cost of the camp is $50. Parents may sign up through Willmar Community Education and Recreation at willmarcer.com or by calling WCER at 320-231-8490.  

SMSU intra-squad football scrimmage this Saturday

The Southwest Minnesota State University football team will conclude spring drills this Saturday with its annual Spring Game at the Regional Event Center starting at 1 p.m.

The Mustangs’ roster includes Kyle Johnson of Atwater, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound senior right tackle who started all 11 games last year. He’s a 2008 ACGC graduate redshirted as a freshman and received a medical redshirt in the 2011 season.

The Spring Game, which is free, is held in conjunction with a free youth football clinic starting at 11:45 a.m. open to kids in grades K-8.

The Mustangs open the season on Sept. 7 at home against St. Cloud State.
