Zylstra scores pair of TDs in Cobbers’ victory

New London-Spicer graduate Brandon Zylstra, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound wide receiver, caught touchdown passes covering 67 and 53 yards in the first half from Griffin Neal, as the Concordia Cobbers debuted Saturday with a 39-14 win over Jamestown College in Moorhead. Zylstra caught 5 passes for 131 yards and Neal completed 16 of 19 passes for 303 yards.

At St. Paul Saturday, Hamline topped Minnesota-Morris 41-33 at Klas Field. Cougars wide receiver Brendon Foss, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior from Hancock, caught 9 passes from Caleb McLaren for 93 yards and 3 TDs covering 7, 5 and 2 yards.

At Northfield, St. Olaf belted Northwestern of Roseville 37-18. Senior defensive back Derek Henle (New London-Spicer) led the Oles with 7 solo tackles and an assist.

A 40-yard field goal with 2 seconds left Friday lifted St. John’s to a 17-14 win at UW-River Falls in Gary Fasching’s debut as the Johnnies head coach. Jake Essler, senior running back out of NLS, scored both SJU TDs on 2-yard bursts. Josh Bungum, a sophomore from Paynesville, caught 9 passes for 65 yards from sophomore Nick Martin (Wayzata), son of Willmar Cardinal Pride Hall of Fame member Bob Martin.

Eagle Creek 1-person scramble Sunday

The Eagle Creek Golf Course’s 1-person scramble tournament is Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Flights are determined by handicap, and the tournament will feature a skins game, course events and prizes.

Prairie View golf lists 2 upcoming scrambles

Prairie View Community Golf Club in Brooten has two scrambles coming up this weekend:

Sept. 14 the Rooster Ramble is an 18-hole 3-person scramble with a 9 a.m. start.

Sept. 15 the Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers amateur baseball fundraiser 4-person scramble starts at 1 p.m.

Bluejays’ Brouwer, Scott make All-Tourney team

Two members of the first-place Central Minnesota Christian School Bluejays were named to the All-Tournament Team at Saturday’s Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Invite, as voted by coaches: Nicole Brouwer and Lexi Scott of CMCS, Courtney Scoblic of LP/HT, Amanda Simkhovich and Sydney Tate of Nova and Aislinn Parten of PACT.

In the New London-Spicer football report in Saturday’s paper, the Wildcats’ Jarod Vossen should have been credit with 8 tackles, including 1 sack.
