Baseball/Softball Boosters have meeting today

The Willmar Baseball/Softball Boosters will meet today at 6:30 p.m. at the middle school in Room 143, across from the main office.


Willmar’s Bremer Bank Hoops Holiday Classic pairings announced

The Bremer Bank Boys Basketball Holiday Classic hosted by the Willmar Cardinals is set for Dec. 26-27. Besides the host, Benson, New London-Spicer and first-year program New Century Academy of Hutchinson are also slated to participate.

NLS (14-15 last season) and NCA open the tournament by playing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26. Willmar (13-14) and Benson (9-18) will follow at 8 p.m. The following day the losers play for third place at 7:30 p.m. and the winners will play for the title at 9 p.m.

Willmar beat NLS 69-67 in last year’s championship game.

Pairings set for Wild-Card girls hoops holiday tourney

The Wild-Card Girls Basketball Tournament hosted by the Willmar Cardinals and the New London-Spicer Wildcats is set for Dec. 27-28 at the Willmar High School.

Also playing this year with Willmar and NLS are Albany and Minnehaha Academy of Minneapolis. NLS (24-5 last season) and Minnehaha Academy (20-8) open the tournament by playing at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27. Willmar (12-15) and Albany (24-4) will follow at 6 p.m. The following day the losers play for third place at 6 p.m. and the winners will play for the title at 7:30 p.m.

NLS beat Minnehaha Academy 57-25 in last year’s championship game.

No. 3 Ridgewater hosts MS-Fergus Falls today

The No. 3-ranked Ridgewater volleyball team (7-1, 12-5) will host the Minnesota State-Fergus Falls Spartans (4-3, 12-10) at 6:30 p.m. today at the college gym in Willmar.

The Warriors are rated behind Madison College in first and Rochester CTC in second in the most recent NJCAA Division III poll. 

Four Cardinals named ‘Top Performers of Week’ in CLC

Boys Soccer, Offense: Juan Contreras, Willmar senior midfielder, scored 2 goals in 3 games.

Boys Cross Country: Nadir Yusuf, Willmar sophomore, placed second at the Willmar Invite and fourth at the 20-team Perham Invitational.

Girls Tennis, Doubles: Willmar sisters Bailey (senior) and Cayle (eighth-grade) Hovland won three of four matches to place third at the Section 8AA-South tournament and advance to the 8AA Elite Eight.
