Vikings to unveil new uniforms on April 25

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings are getting a makeover.

The team announced on Thursday that it will unveil its new uniforms at the draft party on April 25. The Vikings have been working with Nike on a redesign to their purple look.

The Vikings are being mum about the specifics of the changes. But they are offering fans a chance to participate in a social media game that will give them a chance to score sneak peeks and teasers as draft night approaches. Fans can engage with the team’s official Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts to earn points to unlock glimpses on Vikingsuniforminsider.com.

It will be the first significant changes to the team’s uniforms since 2008.

Wolters nets trio of awards

South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters added to his already full trophy case this week with a trio of awards. It started on Monday, with Lute Olson All-America Team honors, continued on Tuesday with a National Associate of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 12 first team selection and culminated on Friday with an NABC Third Team All-America selection.

Already a finalist for the Lute Olson Award, an honor presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who played at least two seasons with his respective team, Wolters joins 20 other players on the Lute Olson All-America Team.

Willmar fight club sends 4 to Wadena

The Willmar Boxing Club has lined up matches for four club members this weekend at the armory at Wadena. Willmar junior fighters Diamond Tello, 12; Fernando Zavalo, 14; and Alex Duran, also 14, will box this evening vs. fighters from North Dakota.

On Saturday night, Eloy Zavola, 17, will compete in the regional tournament at 123 pounds. Club manager Kirk Davis states that the kids have worked hard and should be ready.

Henrickson’s Jayhawks to face No. 1 Notre Dame

The Kansas women’s basketball team, coached by Willmar High School graduate Bonnie Henrickson, will look to continue its run as an underdog through the 2013 NCAA Tournament, as the Jayhawks face their toughest challenge yet in No. 1 seed Notre Dame.

KU and the No. 2-ranked Fighting Irish will tip off at 11 a.m. CT, Sunday, at the Norfolk Regional at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.

Kansas is the only school in the country to have an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 participant on both the women’s and men’s side in each of the last two seasons. The No. 1 seed Kansas men’s basketball team plays No. 4 Michigan this evening at 6:40 p.m. in Arlington, Texas.

ACGC’s Hoerchler to play in all-star game

ACGC senior guard Dylan Hoerchler is among 31 boys and girls basketball players selected to play in the 9th annual North Central All-Star Games April 7 at Bemidji State University.

Doors open at noon for the event, which begins with a slam dunk contest at 12:25 p.m. A girls and boys 3-point shooting contest is at 12:50 p.m.

The girls game begins at 1:20 p.m. and the boys game follows at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
