Intro to cross country skiing Saturday at Robbins Island
WILLMAR — An introduction to cross country skiing will be held this Saturday afternoon at Robbins Island Park, and also Saturday, Feb. 1 at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Willmar, weather and snow conditions permitting.
Equipment, instruction, and refreshments will be available 2 to 5 p.m. at no charge on both dates. Snowshoeing is also welcome.
Members of the Willmar Nordic Ski Club and Willmar High School Nordic ski team will be present to provide instruction and information about the trails. The high school and YMCA will be providing equipment and refreshments in the Guri Endresen shelter. All are welcome to participate; no cross-country skiing experience is necessary.
When there is adequate snow cover, the Willmar Nordic Ski Club grooms more than five kilometers of trails on the back nine of the golf course and on adjacent state land, and also at Robbins Island. Level and gently rolling trails are groomed for both classic and freestyle skiing.
The events are co-sponsored by the ski club, ski team, and Willmar Community Education and Recreation.
