Ione J. Nichols Feb. 8, 1923 - Jan. 17, 2014

HUTCHINSON - Ione J. Nichols, 90, of Hutchinson, formerly of Willmar, died Friday, January 17th at Hutchinson Health Care Center in Hutchinson. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am, Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, with interment at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, Willmar.

Ione was born on February 8, 1923, in Spicer, Minnesota, the daughter of George O. and Thea (Drengstig) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. She received her education in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High School in 1940.

On May 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald A. Nichols in Watertown, South Dakota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Nancy, David and Jon. Ione and Don lived in the Willmar area their entire life. They were able to share in 51 years of marriage before Dons death on September 6, 1997. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer.

Ione was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished the time spent with family and friends. Ione had commented recently, "The favorite thing in her life was being a mother." She will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her children, Nancy (Dale) Baklund of Hutchinson, David (Gail) Nichols of Eden Prairie, daughter-in-law, Kim Nichols of Spicer; six grandchildren: Jon (Tara) Baklund, Bryan (Donna) Baklund, Christy (James) Swanson, Kelly (Louis) Trapasso, A.J. Nichols and Dana Nichols; four great-grandchildren, Justin Baklund, Oliver, Henry and Albert Baklund; sister-in-law, Millie Nichols of Willmar and brother-in-law, Donald Elkjer of Hutchinson. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Don; she was preceded in death by her son, Jon, on August 28, 2009; three brothers and four sisters.
