Irene Arntzen April 4, 1910 - June 19, 2009

MENOMONIE, Wis. -- Irene Arntzen, 99, of Menomonie, Wis., formerly of Granite Falls, died Friday at Our House Senior Living in Menomonie.

The service will be at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville.

She was born April 4, 1910, near Granite Falls. She graduated high school in Granite Falls and attended teacher training at Renville Normal School. She taught first through eighth in several one-room country schools.

She married George Arntzen in 1937. They farmed in the Granite Falls area until 1970. She worked as an area reporter for the West Central Daily Tribune and was editor of a newsletter for the Granite Falls Public Schools. She was active in church and taught the Bethel Series. She was also active with the Democratic Farmer Laborites and Farmers Union. They moved to Boyceville, Wis., in 1984. She volunteered for many years at Tiffany Creek Elementary School in Boyceville.

She is survived by three children: Charles (and Kathy) Arntzen of Superstition Mountain, Ariz., Mary (and Steve) Rasmussen of Boyceville and Paul (and Barb) Arntzen of Boyceville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and three brothers.
