LAKE LILLIAN - Irene Bomstad, age 100, of Lake Lillian died Friday, December 28, 2012 at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home in Willmar, MN. Funeral services are Wednesday, January 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian with Rev. Art Wiese officiating. Burial is in Christina Cemetery, rural Lake Lillian. Visitation is Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at K-M Funeral Home in Lake Lillian and continues Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Irene Matilda Bomstad was born October 9, 1912 at rural Bird Island, MN, to William and Anna (Lohmiller) Wittman. Irene attended school at rural Lake Lillian. On March 28, 1938 she married Chauncey Bomstad and they made their home in the Lake Lillian area. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, now United Lutheran, where she participated in the Ladies Aid and quilting group. Irene was a wonderful baker and known for her doughnuts and pies. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and both flower and vegetable gardening. Irene has been a resident of Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home these past eight years.
Irene is survived by her four daughters: Geraldine Eck of Sheridan, WY, Kathleen and her husband George Rust of Bird Island, Myrna and her husband Robert Tesch of Loyal, WI, and Audrey Bomstad and her husband George Quinn of Duluth; her nine grandchildren: Erik Eck, Randal Eck, Noel Eck, Brad Rust, Lynn Rust, Kristal Rust, Bethany Rust, Alan Tesch, and Laura Woodford; her three great-grandchildren; and her sister Louise Reins. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Chauncey in 1996; her brothers: Arthur Wittman, Edward Wittman, and Clarence Wittman; and her sister Florence Gilhoi.
