Italy basketball team releases Winkelman

Despite averaging 15 points per game, former North Dakota State basketball standout and Morris native Brett Winkelman has been released by the Edimes-Pavia professional basketball team in Italy.

Winkelman, a 6-foot-6 forward who helped lead NDSU to last year's NCAA Tournament, averaged 15.4 points for Edimes-Pavia -- a team that was tied for last place with a 4-12 record in a 16-team Italian league. The league is the second-highest competitive professional league in Italy.
