OLIVIA -- John G. "Jack" Donnelly, 85, of Olivia died Monday at his home.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Olivia VFW and American Legion.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia with a 7 p.m. prayer service and from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Renville County Hospice.
He was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Olivia to Charles and Elizabeth (Young) Donnelly. He graduated from Olivia High School in 1941 and worked for an engineering company until being drafted into the Army in 1943. He served overseas from 1943 to 1945 with the 19th Combat Engineers Regiment in Italy. He then attended St. Thomas College.
He married Norine Hank on Oct. 12, 1949, in Olivia. He worked for Chamberlain Engineering Company of Olivia and the City of Olivia until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he served as an altar server for funeral masses. He had been a catcher for the Olivia Blue Sox baseball team.
He is survived by his wife; his five children: Mary (and Mike) Kirkpatrick of Bloomington, Pat (and Mike) Johnson of Hutchinson, John (and Cheryl) Donnelly of Pipestone, Mike Donnelly of Willmar and Terri (and Bob) Steffel of Hutchinson; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
