James C. Halvorson Feb. 12, 1929 - Feb. 20, 2009

CLONTARF -- James C. Halvorson, 80, of Clontarf, died Friday at the Swift County Benson Hospital.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at West Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Hoff Township, Pope County, to Carl and Esther (Aslakson) Halvorson. He grew up in Hoff Township, attended country school at Langhei 85 through the eighth grade and graduated from Benson High School.

He married Cynthia Craig on April 12, 1952, in El Paso, Texas. He served his country in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and attended electrical school. After his discharge, they farmed in Langhei Township, Pope County. He was a member of West Zion Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two sons: DuWayne (and Dianne) Halvorson and Charles (and Kathy) Halvorson, all of Clontarf five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988; and a daughter: Sarah.
