James E. Wanke Aug. 12, 1919 - July 25, 2009
MILAN -- James Emil Wanke, 89, of Milan, died Saturday at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Madison Lutheran Home Chapel in Madison. Burial will be in Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery near Milan.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
He was born Aug. 12, 1919, in Montevideo to Emil and Katherine (Joyce) Wanke. He attended Christianson Country School and Milan Public Schools. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941, served in the Pacific and European theaters and was honorably discharged in 1945. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star and six overseas service bars. He worked on construction with Vern G. Kleven at Milan and at the Burns Fur Co. in Montevideo.
He is survived by his siblings: Gladys Anderson of Lincoln, Neb., John (and Betty) Wanke of Milan and Tom (and Phyllis) Wanke of Appleton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
