AUBERRY, Calif. -- James "Jim" Oleen Sonstegard, 60, of Auberry, Calif., died Tuesday at St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Avenue in Madera, Calif. Burial will be in the Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel in Madera. Memorials are preferred to The Valley Teen Ranch, 2610 West Shaw Ave., Suite 105, Fresno, CA 93711 or Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Deacon Wiley Hicks, 25839 Avenue 18½, Madera, CA 93638.
He was born May 24, 1948, in Decorah, Iowa, to Oleen and Margaret Sonstegard. The family moved to Paynesville in 1960. He graduated in 1966 from Paynesville High School. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with degrees in economics and mathematics in 1972.
He was married to Kathy Barrett on June 12, 1982 in Clovis, Calif.
He served in the Peace Corps in Mali, Africa. He worked for Pillsbury and Foster Farms in California, managing Far East exports for Pillsbury. He joined International Proteins Corporation in 1989 and was named corporate vice president in 1993. In 1998, he became director of Asian markets for the Scoular Company where he was eventually named vice president of international development and risk management. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 2006.
He is survived by his wife; sons: Matthew and James II of Auberry, sisters: Judie (and Harry) Buerman of Medford, Jean Wentzel of Florida and Janet Sonstegard of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
