James Van Batavia Dec. 28, 1933 - Jan. 8, 2009

BROOTEN -- James Louis Van Batavia, 75, of Brooten, died Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnewaska Assembly of God in Glenwood. Burial will be in the Hewitt Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten and for one hour before the service at the church.

He was born Dec. 28, 1933, in Hull, Iowa, to Peter and Catherine (DeVries) Van Batavia. He grew up and attended school in central Minnesota and served in the U.S. Army for two years.

He married Luella Krupke in July 1969. They lived on a farm in the Atwater area. He was a farmer his entire life, most recently in Brooten.

He is survived by his stepchildren: Steve Krupke of Brainerd, Dan (and Julann) Krupke of Sauk Rapids, and Tom (and Kim) Krupke of Sauk Rapids, Pam (and Allan) Frank of Brighton, Colo.; 10 stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; brothers: Robert (and Linda) Van Batavia of Verndale, Conrad (and Shirley) Van Batavia of Verndale, and Stephen Van Batavia of Hewitt.

He is preceded in death by one sister.
