NEW LONDON -- Janet Holtkamp, 88, of New London, formerly of Cokato, died Monday at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Elim Mission Church in Cokato. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
She was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Glueck to Ben and Marie (Gerdes) Lay. She attended school in Clara City and began working at age 11, baby sitting, doing housework and helping out on her aunt and uncle's farm.
She married Fred Holtkamp on Aug. 17, 1940, in Pipestone. They lived in various places in Minnesota as well as Utah and Idaho. They moved in 1968 to the Dassel and Cokato area where they lived until moving to New London in 2001. She worked at Jennie-O in Willmar and candled eggs at the creamery in Kerkhoven. She also worked at a factory in Maple Plain and had a part-time cleaning job at Rembrandt in Delano. She retired as a certified medical aide from the Dassel Nursing Home after 17 years.
She is survived by her daughter: Sharon (and David) Ferch of Loretto; two sons: Earl (and Lyn) of Wahoo, Neb., James (and Brenda) of New London; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Cassie Maahs of Pennock, Betty (and Frank) Holm of Stillwater and Glenda (and Rick) Rutz of Cologne.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 11, 2002, two brothers and three sisters.
