WILLMAR -- Janet Lynn Flick, 61, of Willmar died Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital, after having ovarian cancer since 1999.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

She was born Oct. 14, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Howard and Edna (Krause) Shaw. They moved to Denison, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from high school. In 1970, she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Midwestern College of Denison.

She married Fred Flick on June 12, 1966. In 1970, they moved to Stratford, Iowa, and in 1972, they relocated to Rockwell City, Iowa. They moved to Willmar in 1980. In 1980, she started teaching full time. She was most recently employed as a coordinator of Adult Basic Education in 11 school districts in west central Minnesota. She was a trainer/presenter for the Minnesota Literacy Network.

She was chairperson of the Kandiyohi County Corrections Board, Adult Education Consortium leader, and a United Way volunteer. She was a Campfire leader, a member of Eagle Creek Golf Course and an honorary chair of Relay for Life. In 2005, she was named Minnesota Community Education Educator of the Year. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church since 1980, where she served on the church council and call committees, and participated in the Advent Festivals. She also sang with the senior shoir and One Accord and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of WELCA, small group Bible study, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband; three children: Amy (and Kevin) Bebler of Chaska, Ann (and Steve) Trochlil, Willmar and Cole (and fiancée Beth Remme) of Dassel; one brother: Gary (and Carol) Shaw of Wichita Kan.; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
