PENNOCK - Jeanette M. Bast, 86 of rural Pennock, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at her home. Her funeral service will be at 1:30 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-8:00 pm on Saturday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake and continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Jeanette Bast was born on January 9th, 1927, in Lamberton, Minnesota, the daughter of Sidney and Edna (Rutledge) Barker. She grew up in the Lamberton community and attended school at District 3 through the eighth grade. After school, she worked as a maid, cooking, cleaning and baking. Jeanette was united in marriage to Donald Bast on October 10th, 1944, at the Methodist Church in Jeffers.

Jeanette was a member of the VFW in Belgrade and the American Legion Auxiliary in New London. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake where she was active in WELCA and served her church in numerous ways. Jeanette enjoyed growing a vegetable garden (while she was raising her five children), baking bread weekly, flower gardening, going out to lunch with her friends, reading books, word finds and crossword puzzles. She was a quilter, giving quilts to all the grandchildren and quilt gifts to others. Jeanette enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Oregon, Arizona and Montana. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jeanette is survived by her two sons, Roger (Julie) Bast of Hawick, Kent (Rose) Bast of Belle Plaine; three daughters, Sandra (Roger) Stai of Pennock, Janice (Duane) Roiger of Springfield, Janine (Elmer) Claassen of Alexandria; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma Holck of Jeffers, Minnesota, Neva Matter of Woodbury, Oregon and Lulla Belle (Dick) Moots of Troy, Montana; two sisters-in-law, Doris Barker of Jeffers and Elta Barker of Westbrook.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 2012; parents; five brothers, Earl, William, James, Eldo and Calvin Barker; three sisters, Doris Carter, Margaret Pohl, Darlene Freyholtz; son-in-law, Brian Olson; and grandson, David Bast.
