Jennie-O names Tom Smith vice president of quality management
WILLMAR –– Jennie-O Turkey Store announced Friday that Tom Smith has been promoted to vice president of quality management.
Smith, who started his career with Hormel Foods in 1994, has worked in Hormel plants around the country.
“Tom brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new position,” said Glenn Leitch, president of Jennie-O Turkey. “We look forward to having him at the company and in the Willmar area.”
Smith will replace Richard Carlson, who started his career with Hormel in 1990 and has been vice president of quality management in Willmar since 2010. Carlson has been promoted to the position of vice president of quality management at Hormel Foods in Austin.
“We are going to miss Richard deeply, particularly his knowledge of industry technical issues and his communication skills,” Leitch said. “We’re pleased, however, that his skills and expertise will be put to use at our parent company and for the benefit of the entire Hormel family of companies.”
Smith began working with Hormel Foods in October of 1994 as a production supervisor at Dold Foods, in Wichita, Kan. In 1998 he transferred to the Hormel corporate quality assurance team as a process specification coordinator.
He has held the position of quality and process control manager for Hormel plants in Knoxville, Iowa, Rochelle, Ill., Osceola, Iowa, Wichita and Austin.
