Jim Gulbranson March 3, 1949 - Feb. 22, 2009
PAYNESVILLE -- James David Gulbranson Sr., 59, of Paynesville, died Sunday at the University of Minnesota Fairview Medical Center.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Paynesville Lutheran Church in Paynesville with military honors by the Paynesville American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born March 3, 1949, in Chicago to John and Jean (Cowan) Gulbranson. His family moved to Omaha, Neb., and later Denver where he attended Westminster High School, graduating in 1967. He attended Metropolitan State College in Denver for two years before enlisting in the Air Force and serving in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Denver where he owned and operated a Mexican restaurant before moving to the Black Hills.
He married Kimberly Kruse on June 16, 1979, and they lived in the Black Hills and Denver before moving to Paynesville in 1986. He spent most of his career as a chef and most recently worked as a banquet chef for the Green Mill Kelly Inn in St. Cloud.
He is survived by his wife; children: James (and Lori) Gulbranson of Clearwater and Kate Spitzmiller of Boston; two grandchildren and brother: John (and Dee) Gulbranson of Pensacola, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
