Joann Giinthir, 77, of Pennock died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Rice Care Center in Willmar. Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, March 30th at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, Willmar. www.hafh.org
Joann was born on July 8, 1936, near New London, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Johannah (Swenson) Stulen. She grew up near New London where she graduated from high school. For a couple of years prior to her marriage, Joann worked for Willmar Poultry.
On January 4, 1958, Joann was married to Paul Giinthir at Nordland Lutheran Church, rural Paynesville. They lived in a couple of different areas before settling in Pennock. Joann stayed home to raise her children, and later in life worked at the community center in Pennock with Meals on Wheels.
She was baptized in the Christian faith, confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church and was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Paul; children, Pat Johannes of Pennock; Connie (and Zane) Cecil of Willmar; Linda (and John) Nelson of Hector; Michael (and Carol) Giinthir of St. Bonifacius; Dale (and DeAnn) Giinthir of Cold Spring and Amy (and David) Spellman of Willmar; nine grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Glen (and Audrey) Stulen of Hawick and sister-in-law, Leona Stulen of Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Ione Volker, Leo Stulen, and David in infancy.
