GLENWOOD - Johanna DeJager Segaar, age 97, of Glenwood, MN, formerly of Brooten, passed away Monday June 24th at Glenwood Lakeview Good Samaritan Center surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday June 27th at the Brooten Community Church with Pastor Dave Zylstra officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.

Johanna DeJager, the daughter of Mark and Alice (Hofma) DeJager was born September 14, 1915 on a farm near Sheldon, Iowa. She attended a country school near Sheldon and graduated from the 8th grade. She was a dedicated caregiver to her invalid mother from her teen years until her mother's passing in 1944. She also clerked in a grocery store for several years. On December 15th, 1938 she was united in marriage to Herman Segaar at her mother's home in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon and Hospers, Iowa until 1949, when they moved to a farm near Brooten. Their marriage was blessed with 8 children. In 1973, Herman and Johanna left the farm and moved to Brooten. They moved to Glenwood Estates in December, 2008 where the couple shared their 74th wedding anniversary this past December. Johanna was able to live independently with minimal assistance until she moved into the Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood in March.

Johanna was a faithful member of the Brooten Community Church where she served in various positions of the Pray and Work Society. She was also active in the Brooten Senior Citizens. She and Herman often provided special music for the club meetings. Johanna will be remembered as a dedicated and caring wife and mother, as well as for her baking, gardening and canned goods. She loved music and playing the piano was a great joy to her.

Johanna is survived by her children: Larry and Faith of Grand Rapids, MI, Judy and Don of Laguna Beach, CA, Alyce and Ray of Jenison, MI, Carl and Marlys of Paynesville, MN, Stanley and Pauline of Brooten, MN, Ruth of Hopkins, MN, and Nancy of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Johanna was preceded in death by her husband, Herman (on April 27, 2013), a daughter, Connie Mae; eight sisters and 1 brother, and 1 great-grandson.
