John Bohlsen Feb. 17, 1924 - March 29, 2013
CLARA CITY - John Bohlsen, 89, of Clara City, died Friday, March 29, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Clara City American Legion. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the church and one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.
John Francis Bohlsen was born February 17, 1924, on the family farm east of Clara City, the son of Martin and Dena (Peters) Bohlsen. He attended country school. He was baptized and made profession of faith at Bunde Christian Reformed Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. On September 24, 1945, he married Betty Hoogeveen. They lived and farmed in rural Clara City. John was a member of Bethany Reformed Church and the Clara City American Legion.
He enjoyed visiting and picnicking with his family. He loved watching baseball and basketball on TV. His favorite activities were playing cards, fishing, hunting and trapping (even skunk).
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Dennis (and Alice) Bohlsen of Zimmerman, Roger (and Juli) Bohlsen of Shakopee, Duane (and Kathy) Bohlsen of Kansas City, KS, Bob (and Robyn) Bohlsen of Ramsey, Randy (and Sally) Bohlsen of St. Louis Park, and Dianne (and Bruce) Barber of Spicer; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin (and Marion) Bohlsen of Clara City and Virgil (and Helen) Bohlsen of Willmar; a sister, Genevieve (and Jim) Zuidema of Willmar; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hank Bohlsen; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Horvath.
