John A. Kvistad July 2, 1929 - Oct. 5, 2008

ST. LOUIS PARK -- John Albert Kvistad, 79, of Granite Falls, formerly of rural Echo, died Sunday at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the start of the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso.

He was born July 2, 1929, in Granite Falls to Knute and Carrie (Stokke) Kvistad. He grew up on the farm in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County. He attended country school and Echo High School.

He married Alice Timm on Nov. 29, 1950. They lived on the Kvistad family farm until moving to Starbuck in 2000. They moved to Granite Falls in 2003.

He farmed, was a cattle buyer and grave digger for many years until retiring in the late 1980s.

He was a member of the Rock Haven Church in Granite Falls and served as an usher and a member of the church council at the American Lutheran Church in Echo. He served on the board of directors for Sunset Burial Association for a number of years, belonged to the Triple T Saddle Club and was active with the high school rodeo.

He is survived by his wife; 10 children: Steven (and Mary Jo) Kvistad of Crawford, Neb., Thomas Kvistad of Dassel, Michael (and Sharon) Kvistad of Jamestown, Ind., Robert (and Marietta) Kvistad of Grand Forks, N.D., Charles (and Terri) Kvistad of Northbrook, Ill., Karen (and Steve) Anderson of Echo, Mary (and David) Luepke of Belview, Anne (and Jon) Anderson of Echo, Denver (and Tammy) Kvistad of Brainerd and Laura (and Darian) Horejsi of Livermore, Colo.; a brother: Knute Kvistad of St. Cloud; 30 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
