John M. Hafstad Nov. 6, 1939 - July 26, 2009
GLENWOOD -- John M. Hafstad, 69, of Glenwood, died Sunday at his home.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Barsness Lutheran Church near Glenwood. Burial will be in Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born on Nov. 6, 1939, in Brooten to Arnold and May (Johnson) Hafstad. He grew up on a farm near Sedan and attended school in Glenwood. He majored in biology and history education at Concordia College in Moorhead, graduating in 1961. He taught for one year and then became a salesman for Standard Oil.
On July 9, 1967, he married Grace Mikkelson in Hawley. They lived in White Bear Lake for a year. They then built a home in Coon Rapids where they lived for four years. The family later moved to Wisconsin for two years before returning to the Glenwood area in 1976 so he could join his father on the family farm. In addition to farming, he was an agricultural salesman for Agri-King.
He was a longtime member of Barsness Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.
He is survived his wife; two sons: James (and Jill) Hafstad of Minneapolis and Michael Hafstad who isstationed with the armed forces in Japan; and one granddaughter.
