GROVE CITY -- John Virgil Sauer, 58, of Grove City, died Saturday in Grove City.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfiel. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Military honors provided by the Litchfield military honor guard.
Visitation will be for one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born July 20, 1950, in Huron, S.D., to Virgil and Phyllis (Milton) Sauer. He grew up in Howard, S.D., and moved to Crystal when he was 7 years old. His family later moved to Golden Valley, where he attended high school, graduating in 1968.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army. After being discharged in 1974, he attended the University of Minnesota School of Fine Arts. He lived in Minneapolis, where he was a carpenter and a journeyman cabinetmaker. He later moved to Grove City.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his siblings: Kathleen (and Ted) Gwillim of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Sauer of Bemidji and Colleen Johnson of Corcoran.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
