Johnson is chief public defender for the 8th Judicial District and was elected to the council in 2008. The Tribune was unable to reach Johnson on Friday for a comment on why is he is seeking re-election.

Johnson will be challenged by Andrew Bjur.

Ahmann, owner of Ahmann Construction, previously served on the council from 1986 through 1994 and was elected again in 2008. Ahmann said he is seeking reelection to take care of unfinished business.

"I want to maintain and continue with reconstruction of the city's deteriorating streets, the storm water management issue, the downtown revitalization, see the final changes to the charter commission and day to day tasks,'' he said.

Ahmann serves as chairman of the Labor Relations Committee. He thanked the citizens for their support during the last four years.

"I thoroughly enjoy representing them. I thoroughly enjoy my job. I enjoy building consensus among nine different personalities,'' he said.

The filing period began Tuesday and ends June 5.
