Jon M. Hanson June 23, 1965 - July 2, 2013

SPICER - Jon M. Hanson, 48 of Spicer, formerly of Heimdal, ND, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Jon Michael Hanson was born on June 23, 1965 in Golden Valley, the son of Eugene and Shirley (Carstens) Hanson. He grew up in New London where he attended New London/Spicer High School, graduating in 1983. He spent his summers working on the Paffrath farms and the Carl Holstad farm. After his schooling he worked as a service advisor for Swenson Motor Company in Willmar for 7 years and then as a service manager for Laubach Chevrolet Buick in Paynesville for 10 years. He then worked for Christy’s Auto Wrecking until he moved to Heimdal, North Dakota in 2006, where he worked on Bill Ongstad’s 7000 acre ranch and farming operation. In August of 2012, he was diagnosed with a major illness that required him to retire. He returned to his home area and lived with his sister, Patti

Jon loved mechanical work, fishing, hunting camping, spending time outdoors and farming. He is remembered as a good hearted and lovable person who always worked hard and had time to help friend. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Eugene and Shirley Hanson of New London; siblings, Terry (Joan) Hanson of Shoreview and Patti Jo (Dan) Schroeder of Spicer; nephews, Nick Hanson, Derek (Megan) Noor; nieces Kristin (Brandon) Bauer and Katie Hanson (friend, Steven); 5 great-nieces and nephews and numerous Aunts, Uncles, family and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents.
